About our school:

Ekialdea is a public school located in the centre of Vitoria-Gasteiz. The school serves 931 students from the city centre and surrounding districts and also villages not too far from the centre (transportation and catering services available).  We offer Secondary Compulsory (Ekialdea I ) and Post-Obligatory Education (Ekialdea II). We are over 100 teachers.

We offer

SECONDARY COMPULSORY EDUCATION (from 12 to 16; four academic years divided in two cycles.) Competence-based approach. Small groups and adapted curriculums for students with special needs.

POST-OBLIGATORY EDUCATION (from 16 to 18). Different learning itineraries for

• Social Science & Arts Baccalaureate
• Science & Technology Baccalaureate
• Artistic Baccalaureate

International projects:

• Ekialdea BHI is a dynamic school concerned with the quality of teaching and the added value of developing the European dimension within the curriculum (ELOS). We are interested in providing the students with the tools for lifelong learning and European citizenship.
• Focus on languages. The main teaching language is Basque and Spanish is taught as a subject. All students learn English and can also choose a second foreign language (French or German). School exchanges are organised with schools in the Netherlands, France and Germany every year. Also, we have an English language assistant to work with small groups of students to introduce basic language or improve linguistic ability, with a focus on oral skills.
• The school is also involved in other projects developing the key competences in the European Framework : new technologies, minority languages, tutorials…

School surroundings:

Vitoria-Gasteiz is a comfortable, warm and green city where pedestrians and bikers are welcome. Capital of the Basque Autonomous Community, its vast green belt and well-known care for sustainable development offer a high standard of living.

The renovated Medieval Quarter is shaped like an enormous ellipse packed with beautiful medieval towers and Renaissance mansions. It´s the right place for a stroll and to taste local gastronomy.

Vitoria-Gasteiz is a land of contrasts, not far from the sea in the north, surrounded by mountains running from east to west and the Rioja region in the south, where delicious wines and cellars show the culture of vineyards.
